Social Emotional Wellbeing

Social Emotional Wellbeing (Social Emotional Learning - SEL)

Our unique SEL program is a process for helping students develop the fundamental skills for life effectiveness. These skills include recognizing and managing our emotions, developing care and concern for others, establishing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, and handling challenging situations constructively and ethically. In our SEL program we offer:

One-on-one Counseling; Meet up with a student and the school therapist to support them in any roadblock they are facing. They are provided tools to get through what may feel impossible at the high school level (peer pressure, grades, teachers, substance abuse, social media, etc)

Small Group Gender/age specific Circles (sessions); Where themes are discussed from a logic and mental health perspective to support students in making the best choices and decisions that lead them to a life of happiness and contentment.

Gender Specific Halaqas; where a religious leader addresses the students in an informal way to support their growth into adulthood.

Whole School Circles; where students meet together for a chance to discuss topics, make decisions, explore new ideas, and share emotions as an entire school

Purpose Navigation; where students work for the years while at AHS to help navigate their purposes in life and how to work towards them.

Restorative Practices; which help students practice accountability in their actions through restoration.
