We noticed students come into high school with poor eating and sleeping habits. This seminar was designed to help students understand heathy eating and nutrition. We cover topics such as sugar in drinks, GMO’s, factory farmings and have a practical cooking class that help them make healthier food choices in action.
Students learn about how marketing and consumerism affects self image and self worth. Students learn how to become a better consumers and learn how to maneuver through ads and marketing techniques. They also learn about workers rights and how their consumer habits affect people abroad.
Whilst taking U.S Government & Civics, students are introduced to key concepts in the field of politics. Students will begin by understanding what policy and advocacy are and how they are both used as tools for change. Through case studies from various communities, students explore how policy and advocacy are critical tools in the field of politics and how they as students can use those very same tool for change.
As the culminating seminar, students come to terms of the concept social justice. The goal of the seminar is for the students o come up with a working definition of social justice that the students attune to and in turn strive towards. As part of this seminar student will:
Project Innovation is offered at 11th grade to give students the hands on approach to critical thinking and problem solving skills. In this class, students learn and use a methodology of inquiry called “Design Thinking” which is an orientation toward learning that encompasses active problem-solving and believing in one’s ability to create impactful change.Students start the year by learning and applying the protocol of design thinking to joint class challenges and then move on to work individually towards solving challenges around them.
