The Student Council is responsible for being a communicative body between the staff and students. As a Student Council, the elected student officials bring a student perspective to the daily goings and comings of the school.
The Media Club at Averroes High School consists of 11 curious students and 2 committed advisors. They meet every week on Thursdays during lunch block. This team has a passion for exploring media, and enjoys communicating with and producing projects for the Averroes community. Some of these projects include crafting the yearbook, developing student and faculty I.D. cards, and composing bi-weekly in house newsletters. All of these projects are student made! This space is especially meant to develop student accountability and teamwork skills, as it challenges each member to meet deadlines and learn within an active group setting.
The Tech Challenge involves teams of students in Grades 4-12 to use the engineering design process to solve a real-world problem. Participanting teams spend months collaborating and becoming deeply engaged in the challenge while documenting their progress and designs. The program culminates in a thrilling two-day showcase in April when teams put their solutions to the test in front of judges. This year's challenge involves designing and building a device that will survive a drop from the top of a mountain or tall building and will deliver supplies, without the use of batteries.
The Writing Club at Averroes High School consists of 7 passionate writers and 1 advisor. They meet every week on Monday during lunch block. This collective enjoys writing fictional excerpts, and sharing their work for constructive feedback. Each week, each writer in the group gets the opportunity to share their story and receive ample feedback from their peers. This space is meant to celebrate the craft of writing.
